I've Worked 160 Central Florida Venues. Here's the Only Venue Search I Actually Recommend.

I've worked a lot of venues around Central Florida. Enough that when a couple tells me where they're getting married, I usually know the room, where the bar goes, and whether the load-in involves stairs.

So when people ask me how to find a venue, I have opinions. And the honest answer is that most venue search tools are bad in the same specific way: they're directories that got sold to whoever paid.

Wedding Venue Map isn't that, which is why I keep pointing people at it.

The map thing sounds obvious. It isn't.

Most venue directories give you a list and a filter. You type "Orlando," you get 200 results sorted by who's paying the most, and you have no idea that three of them are forty minutes apart in opposite directions.

Wedding Venue Map shows you a map. You can see that the venue you love is actually in Clermont, which matters enormously when half your guests are staying near the airport and you're arranging transport.

Geography is the single most practical thing about choosing a venue, and almost every other tool buries it.

It's run by people who do this for a living

Anna Poulton, who runs it, is in the same rooms I'm in. That shows up in the details — the listings include the stuff that actually matters to people working an event, not just the hero shot and a capacity number.

The vendor side is genuinely useful too. It's how a lot of us in Central Florida find each other, and there's a real network behind it. Danny and Candice at Done Wright Culinary, Michael at Sonacity Photography, Andrea at Bella Grey — these are people I've worked alongside, and having them in one place that couples can actually browse is more valuable than another listing site.

The honest disclosure

I'm listed on Wedding Venue Map. So obviously I'm not a neutral party here.

What I'd say is this: I'm listed in several places, and this is the only one I bring up unprompted when couples ask me where to start. That's the actual recommendation. The rest is just me being on a website.

Where it's less useful

It's Central Florida focused. If you're getting married in Savannah, this isn't your tool.

And it's a discovery tool, not a booking platform — you're still emailing venues, still doing tours, still negotiating. It gets you a good shortlist. It doesn't do the work after that.

What I'd actually do if I were planning

• Open the map. Look at where things are relative to where your people are staying.
• Shortlist five, not twenty-five.
• Ask every single one whether outside bar vendors are allowed. Ask before you tour.
• Then go look at them in person, because photos lie about size and light.

That last one is free advice from someone who has set up in a lot of rooms that looked bigger online.
